Core values
Taoists believe in the Yin and Yang, which is a term used to describe how contrary forces are interconnected, which for them is a way of understanding opposites. When there are these opposing forces, then can there be natural harmony. The Taoists believed in the way of nature, also known as the Tao. The followers of Taoism believe that they should live in harmony with the Tao in order for everything to be fine. To do so, they strive for non-action, meaning that one should not strive for improvement, governments should have the least amount of control, and people should withdraw from the world of politics and social activism.
Taoism does not have a God like other religions such as Christianity, but there are gods, mostly borrowed from other cultures. Instead of believing in the God or a god, Taoists believe that the universe springs from the Tao, which guides their life. The gods that Taoism does have are from the universe and are subject to the Tao as well.
